All About Winston

Winston (sometimes Winnie the Poof) is a healthy male cat that is about 1-2 years old. He was found seeking shelter on a very cold day in Sunset Park, Brooklyn after seeming injured.

Winston may be a British Longhair or possibly a Domestic Longhair. He is a gentle and independent cat with a love of leisure — a sunny window is his location of choice. He can be a little reserved since he is still getting used to what indoor life can be like. Despite his rough start to life, Winston is very loving and is looking for the right person that can keep showing him kindness, patience, and above all, provide a safe home. Consistent positive reassurance is key to building the trust that lets his bright personality shine through. Winston is a great communicator — if he feels overstimulated, he will let you know and retreat to a cozy spot on his own. He’ll take his time and will soon return to you when he is ready for more attention. For example, he is not keen on being picked up and he prefers to explore an environment on his own. While he is beginning to notice the perks of indoor life, he would prefer to be the only cat in the house for the time being.

One thing Winston knows is good food! Winston is a great eater, he absolutely loves wet canned food. His favorite protein is chicken and after a few taste tests, his favorite cat food brand is Weruva. Which is great for hydration and keeps his beautiful coat soft and shiny. Underneath that impressive coat is a resilient and powerful cat. He loves to seek high places to climb and keep his nails nice and tidy on cat scratchers. Winston is very tidy and grooms himself well, but long haired breeds do require some basic coat maintenance. Brushing him at least twice a week is necessary to keep his hair from becoming matted or tangled. While Winston is an expert on his own coat, brushing him also provides a wonderful opportunity for his adopter to bond with him! He will also greatly appreciate bonding with a Churu or treats while being brushed.

Overall, Winston is a gorgeous, loving, sometimes shy, and playful cat who will show you that having him by your side is nothing but rewarding. Winston would love a patient family that will love him unconditionally and help him continue to grow his confidence. He will surely bring great joy to someone that works from home or has a hybrid schedule and enjoys a few biscuits in the morning. Children might make him nervous, so a home without any young children would be ideal.

Winston did great at all of his veterinary wellness exams, he was very cooperative. He arrived with a small wound on his neck that the doctor estimated could’ve been from squeezing under a sharp fence. He received care and antibiotics to prevent infection and the wound has since healed up nicely. He has a shaved spot on his neck from the exam, but that fluff will grow back very soon!

His blood panel and dental exam were excellent. He tested positive for the heartworm antigen, which can occur with some cats from any exposure while living outside. The veterinarian explained that this test doesn’t confirm the presence of heartworms and after performing a chest x-ray, it was confirmed that his heart is healthy with no abnormalities. Favorite food: Weruva all chicken flavors (wet food)

  • Favorite past time: Window watching, napping in sunny spots, and catnip

  • Favorite toy: Cat scratching poles, cardboard scratchers, sisal scratchers (still discovering toys)

  • Favorite treat: Churus, Tiki Cat Stix (Chicken) Wet Treats

This cat would prefer to be adopted alone and be the only cat in the home.
